My experience was as a visitor, visiting my brother in icu. I found his care lacking and the staff unfriendly except for a handful which were informative .As I have unfortunately experienced icu units at least three times, I do know how patients family should be treated and the patient themselves, the staff could all use a refresher course in empathy, manners and care of thier patients. In my brother's case he was there for ten to eleven days and shipped to Bangor where one of their first concerns had to be the infected bed sore which so far he has had to endure two surgeries on, imagine he entered this hospital with none , and in ten days left this facility with more issues due to the lack of care, does this facility only treat the fronts of patients? Noone ever bothered to look at the other side of his body? Shame on the care given and the staff and dr.'s who are short with any form of question asked like I said have been to other icu units and at least was not treated like a pain the neck , a smile also goes along way.I am grateful for the handful which were very people friendly the rest including the doctor should look up the word empathy and perhaps a refresher course on checking for issues which might occur on patients backs, buttocks etc. especially when the patients are incapable of talking or moving on their own.And a side note the visitors room could also be alittle more hospitable to anyone who has to be at your hospital for a length of time ,they are people who are in pain and grief for their loved ones who are in your care. There should be pillows and blankets for family waiting to hear if their loved ones are okay and outlets for their phones to be charged at the very least.
